- Worms:
- They are more insidious and potentially more devastating than viruses.
A worm does not require a host like a virus to cause trouble, it is able to replicate itself on your system.
Worms can be active or passive.
A passive worm can be unleashed by such action as a double click.
An active worm can launch itself from a received e-mail
(not necessarily in an attachment).Worms can perform such actions as e-mailing everyone in your address book and disable anti-virus utilities (eg. the Goner worm).
They may be disguised as a Trojan horse.
Due to its copying nature it can consume much of a system's memory.
